Interview with Anna Cole for the track release “Boom Boom Bang”
When did you start making music?
I started singing ever since I could speak, maybe age 1. I started writing songs when I was about 7.
Please describe your career to date in relation to music?
Ever since I was a baby, my Dad used to bring me up on stage with him. He was full-time lead vocalist in a rock band and that’s how I learned about music. He would let me sing along with him as he held me. Of course those were the all-ages shows! As I grew older I started making my own music and wrote my first song when I was about 7. Since then, I make music every day, either by writing or by singing in our recording studio. I’ve been doing this daily for the last five years.
Do you take singing lessons?
I have only had a few formal vocal lessons but I have worked for many years in our recording studio. I have logged thousands of hours by making original music or just having fun by singing along to cover songs. My Dad coaches me and maybe that is a lesson? Now I do this mostly by myself as I have learned to operate the studio equipment on my own.
How does your family support you?
My family is 100% behind me and I truly appreciate their support. Since I am so young I do not yet have a full-time job and the equipment is expensive. My family helps by letting me use the studio and gives me an opportunity to improve in a great atmosphere. Also, they help me with phone calls and with emails. It’s hard for a 14 year old girl to talk to a 35 year old man! They bridge this gap as I sit with them and we craft messages and do Skypes together.
What has been your biggest success?
So far I’d say my biggest success was when I released my first EP by doing a live performance under the 2017 Great American Solar Eclipse. As the sky grew dark in the middle of day, I sang my songs as we did a Facebook Live show. It was so cool! The next day I started getting messages from all over the United States! I did not know at that time but a reporter came and covered the show and took pictures, and the Associated Press picked up her story about me. My face and show review appeared in almost every major newspaper in the USA. What a great surprise to wake up to. That’s how many people first knew of me.
Describe your experience with “submindie records” !
Submindie has been great. This is my first release with them and they have been very supportive. It is hard to find others to really get behind you and work with you, and Submindie has done that so much. They are a new record label and my hope is that we find great success together. They are also in Europe so that gives me an opportunity to be pushed and heard on another continent and beyond. I know we are both trying real hard to make Anna Cole a success! I am glad I signed with them for this release.
Where do you see yourself in the future?
Of course I’d like to be as ‘big’ as Dua Lipa or Lady Gaga. I want to do a world tour and perform in places I’ve never been to. I want to make music that people sing to in their cars on their way to work. Mostly, I want to make at least one song that lasts a long time and becomes a household sing-along. A song that someday my kids will say ‘Gee Mom, that’s YOUR song? Everybody knows that one, it’s a classic!’
What is important to you in relation to music?
I think it’s very important to stay true to who you are. I try hard to be exactly who I am. If I sing from the heart then I think that will be the best way to be successful.
How do you think the current health crisis will affect the music world?
I think the COVID 19 crisis will result in changes in the music industry, just as with all other businesses. New artists will rise up and others with fade away. New labels will have a chance to make an impact. I think there will by opportunity for new artists to be seen and heard, as right now people are told to stay home and are on the internet. Maybe they have more time to find my songs now? I hope to be more visible to everyone.
Finally, find a few words about yourself and your music!
I love to sing and create music! I want to be one of your favorite artists and I hope you will grow with me and we can take this journey together! I like to make music that is catchy and enjoyable, and sometimes music that has a message. I am a teen and understand what it’s like to be young and the issues we young people face every day, but I also hang out with older people and can relate to them as well. Basically, I want to make at least one song you remember forever.
Boom Boom Bang is bi-lingual. I sang the lyrics in both Spanish and English, and hope this opens the door to new listeners across many different areas of the world.
Thank you Anna for the interview and answering the questions openly. We and especially I am looking forward to the release and wish you all a lot of success with it and with your upcoming music
